A Very Eventful Monday

A Very Eventful Monday

Lately, I’m beginning to really understand my mom saying she felt like Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy.  I really am my mother’s daughter.  The things that I get myself into really can’t be made up.  This is probably why I feel a bit sad for my daughters knowing the genes they carry.

Today started like any other day, peaceful.  However, the newest kitty of the bunch needed to go to the vet.  He had some bite wounds from when he was at CG’s.  I noticed them, when I was there for KG’s 18th birthday.  His getting out and getting into cat fights is why he is with me.  He’s a really good boy and so relaxed.  He loves to go for walks, since I don’t let him just roam.  It’s a compromise.  We haven’t gone for a week because the harness rubs his wounds.  They seemed to be healing, until I noticed they were infected yesterday.

I get ready and I think this relaxed baby would be as easy as my other babies to get into the crate.  The crate has been sitting out and explored.  I had to take two other kitties to the vet last week. He’s downstairs chilling and we have plenty of time to get him crated and on our way.

I gently pick him up and try to swiftly get him in the crate.  Well, that backfired.  I have had some fast kitties, but this lanky boy was lightning fast.  Those big front paws hit the sides and the back paws were flying.  I tried a couple more times, because maybe I wasn’t doing it right.  I thought I could get a towel and get the front feet in, then the back should be easy. Nope.  I pushed the crate against the wall for leverage and he wasn’t having it.  By this time the other five cats and two dogs were cheering someone on.  I don’t think they were on my side, though.  I’m sure they were enjoying the show and just needed some popcorn.  Light bulb went off on just using the harness.  It started out well, until he realized he was going to the car.  He put the brakes on and had his back end loose, but thankfully, the collar part held.  Back in the house to regroup, how am I getting this guy to the vet.

Another idea of taking the top off the crate, put the cat in and try to assemble it.  I put the crate in the half bath, open it up, and fail.  That boy is a scrappy one!  After a couple of tries, I give up.  I remembered about dinner time that the crate is still in the bathroom in pieces.  Last ditch effort is to try the harness one more time.  I got it on him and a little more snug than the first time.  Brilliant idea is to also wrap those paws in a towel.  I really didn’t need anymore claw to skin contact.  Thankfully, it worked.

I’m breathing a sigh of relief.  He’s in the car.  The strap to buckle the harness to the seat is neatly tucked in the trunk.  Dogs are much easier.  I decided to not even try to get the strap.  He’s pacing and still not thrilled with me.  That’s when it hits me, that I left my glasses inside and forgot my contacts.  I’m truly batting a 1000 at this point.  Good thing, I keep an old pair in the car.  Of course, they would be in the console where the boy is laying.  I disrupt him and we get moving.  It takes 20 minutes to get to the vet and I have 17.  We weren’t too late and I think the cuteness of him walking on the harness makes up for it.

The poor baby needed an antibiotic shot that will last for two weeks.  Guess what happens in two weeks?  I wonder how much he’ll remember.  He’ll really hate me for getting his shots, too.  However, he needs to be protected, since he loves going outside.

We get home in one piece.  He’s thrilled to be home.  He jumps out, explores a bit and heads for the door.  He lays down right by my rose bush.  He’s happy and I’m feeling relieved, until I notice the bees are enjoying the flowers.  The whole bush is buzzing.  I’m not afraid of much, but if it flies and stings I have a lot of respect for it.  I’m glad the roses smell better than the Jasmine essential oil I used for perfume.  I grab him and we go in the house to be greeted by everyone.  I barely got his harness off fast enough, because one of the dogs just has to stick her nose in my face.  My sweet boy is still a bit upset with me.  He’s been keeping a healthy distance, although I got a couple of pets in.  I think LG will be his human for a while.

The rest of my day wasn’t too bad.  I think after a week of transferring my other domains, they may finally be usable by Wednesday.  Six chats with tech support later and I am hopeful.  I’m still learning website creation.  It’s never ending.  I won’t go into installing the new water filter.  Apparently, we had to use an adapter for the previous one.  Not too much water was wasted in the installation.  I now have clean water again.  I hope your day was a little less eventful than mine.
